Mounce is definitely an authority on this topic, and he makes it VERY easy to comprehend if you are willing to put in the study time. At the end of some chapters he has ‘exegesis’ sections that show you how what you have learned is used in exegesis. Chapters on verbs and their tenses follow those on nouns.
David rated it it was amazing Jan 24, You can grreek through the workbook on viblical of two tracks. The only problem that I have with Mounce’s technique is that he doesn’t recommend learning the verb forms by d.moince paradigms, but by memorizing tables and Master Verb Charts.
Granted, the issue is still being worked through, but many things, such as the nature of aspect in contrast with tense and tense-form and the difference between semantic encoding and pragmatic effect, would greatly help the new student. Many other resources are available, including vocabulary flashcards; video and audio helps; a Greek font; quizzes and answers for each chapter; fun songs and games; and much, much more. Aside from this it is difficult to f Learning any new language is not an easy task for most people, but Mr. Wonderful companion to the text book. It is well organized and has a very encouraging practical example of the new material being proposed for each chapter.
Understanding why they declined the way they did was helpful for me to finally grasp the concept. This workbook is a study aid for learning Greek. Mounce provided excellent descriptions of what he is doing and why he does it.

I’ve taken this route and it is much like sitting in on his class lectures, with the benefit of a pause basucs. Though a bit weird, it proves to be quite helpful and interesting.

He will also give you examples of things you will learn later on in the book and tell you not to try to learn them yet since, “They are given just to expose you to the concepts. Recently I quite unexpectedly found myself going back to the grammar I studied in seminary because it is more simple and direct than Mounce. It is laid out well, and Mounce’s teaching style is straightforward. Mounce’s book is the standard in the field and duly so.
Mounce has a little character called ‘the professor’ who appears throughout the book giving you fun facts about what you are learning, summaries of what you have just learned and more information as well.
Not only am I able to interact exegetically with critical commentaries, but being able to open up my Greek New Testament and read and translate the text myself is invaluable.
