Mounce is definitely an authority on this topic, and he makes it VERY easy to comprehend if you are willing to put in the study time. Recently I quite unexpectedly found myself going back to the grammar I studied in seminary because it is more simple and direct than Mounce. It is laid out well, and Mounce’s teaching style is straightforward. Mounce’s book is the standard in the field and duly so.

Mounce has a little character called ‘the professor’ who appears throughout the book giving you fun facts about what you are learning, summaries of what you have just learned and more information as well.

Not only am I able to interact exegetically with critical commentaries, but being able to open up my Greek New Testament and read and translate the text myself is invaluable.
